May 22nd 2009:

Daily Activities:
I began my last day of senior project at 2:00 this afternoon. We started our last session with one patient complaining about lower back and leg pain. Diane examined him closely and did some test, since this was his first evaluation, to figure out where the pain was coming from. She persisted with a multitude of stretches designed for the legs and the abs region. Some of the stretches that Diane did helped the flexibility of the hamstrings and glutens, enabling him to move his leg more. This also provided him from getting hurt even more. In general flexibility in the muscles of the body is very important and is a major part of balance of all the things in the body. After the stretching of the leg Diane found that the patient was very tight in the lower back, which could cause the pain in the lower back. Diane also found that his pelvis was not lined up. She used this technique where the patients legs went over her shoulder and had him press back for seven seconds. He did this three more times and this helped line the pelvis back up so that it was even with each other.
Soon after our first patient left our last patient of the day and the last patient of senior project came in. She was telling Diane that her shoulder was bothering her again and was acting up. Since Stephanie and I were almost pros with the shoulder Diane allowed us to do Ultra Sound for the last time… it was somewhat sad, but at the same time enjoyable. I guess you could say it was just another day at the office.
